2. Program & Payment Agreement

Chuan Wu Kung Fu does not rely on long-term contracts as the basis for participation. Tuition and other charges are due according to the payment schedule communicated by the school. Students are responsible for paying on time. Any registration fee, late fee, testing fee, equipment fee, special-class fee, seminar fee, or other applicable charge will be disclosed by the school.

  • Monthly tuition covers regularly scheduled classes available to the student at the student's approved belt/sash level and below, unless otherwise stated. Attending more classes does not increase the monthly tuition unless a separate program or fee is announced.

  • Tuition does not automatically include uniforms, weapons, sparring equipment, training devices, testing, seminars, special classes, travel, or other separately announced items.

  • All fees paid are non-refundable except where a refund is required by applicable law or expressly approved in writing by the organization.

  • Failure to remain current on tuition or other required fees may result in loss of new-material privileges, delayed testing, probation, suspension, or dismissal, subject to applicable law and school policy.

3. Assumption of Risk, Release, Waiver of Liability

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. THIS SECTION AFFECTS LEGAL RIGHTS.

Martial arts and physical-conditioning activities involve inherent risks, including physical contact, striking, kicking, falling, stretching, conditioning, partner drills, sparring, weapons training, and other activities that may cause minor, serious, or catastrophic injury, illness, property damage, or death. Participation is voluntary.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I knowingly and voluntarily assume the ordinary and inherent risks of participation in Chuan Wu Kung Fu classes, programs, training, demonstrations, events, and sponsored travel.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I release and hold harmless Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute, their facility owners/landlords, instructors, assistant instructors, volunteers, agents, employees, administrators, students, and representatives from claims arising from the ordinary and inherent risks of participation, including personal injury or property loss. This release is intended to bind me and, where legally permitted, my heirs, representatives, successors, and assigns.

This waiver does not waive rights or claims that cannot legally be waived. If I do not understand this agreement, I should obtain legal advice before signing.

Medical & safety responsibility

  • I am responsible for determining whether I am physically able to participate and for disclosing relevant limitations to the instructor.

  • I will follow safety instructions, use equipment responsibly, and stop training if I believe an activity is unsafe for me.

  • I understand that physical contact may be required in self-defense applications, partner drills, or sparring.

  • I am solely responsible for lawful, safe, and responsible handling, transport, and use of training weapons and equipment, including compliance with all applicable laws.

4. Student Conduct, Respect & Training Standards

Martial arts training requires discipline, respect, humility, safety, and personal responsibility. The following standards apply to in-person and online training.

  • Treat every student with equal dignity regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, orientation, background, or rank.

  • Address the instructor as Sifu. Use appropriate rank titles for senior instructors and black belts as directed by the school. Instructor status outranks a student of the same belt/sash level.

  • Speak respectfully and at the proper time. Do not interrupt, ridicule, gossip about, demean, harass, threaten, or challenge instructors or students.

  • No stealing, intentional property damage, searching another person's belongings, or accessing an instructor's desk, computer, files, or documents without permission.

  • No reckless or uncontrolled sparring, intentional injury, horseplay, sexually charged conduct, bullying, or other unsafe or inappropriate behavior.

  • Do not teach Chuan Wu material to others unless authorized. Only instructors approved by the organization may formally teach.

  • Listen carefully even when material is familiar. Advancement is based on readiness, skill, conduct, discipline, and the instructor's evaluation—not simply time enrolled.

  • Accept correction with humility. No student is entitled to testing, advancement, new material, or rank.

  • Train in a safe, clean, uncluttered space and maintain patience, focus, and appropriate posture.

5. Online Class Etiquette
  • Arrive early when possible; camera on unless excused; wear the required uniform or appropriate training attire.

  • Sit or stand attentively; avoid lounging, eating, multitasking, or unrelated activities during class.

  • Mute when not speaking and listen attentively.

  • If late, enter respectfully, bow, and wait in the horse stance or designated ready position for acknowledgment or instruction.

  • Do not leave early without notifying or receiving acknowledgment from the instructor in charge.

  • Bow when entering or leaving the training area, before/after forms or drills, when addressing the Sifu or seniors, and at the beginning and end of class.

  • Students may record themselves only with permission. Do not record, publish, share, or distribute the Sifu, classmates, testing, or proprietary training material without authorization.

6. Testing & Rank Advancement
  • Testing may require a written/online examination, payment of the applicable test fee, proper uniform/patches, and any other announced requirements.

  • Bow before demonstrating and remain until the testing session is completed unless excused.

  • Leaving early or failing to follow testing protocol may result in a retake or forfeiture of the test.

  • Possible results include Pass, Conditional Pass, or Retake.

  • Only the Sifu or authorized instructor determines when a student is ready to test, advance, or receive new material.

7. Suspension, Dismissal & Forfeiture

Chuan Wu Kung Fu reserves the right, subject to applicable law, to place a student on probation, suspend participation, or dismiss a student for serious or repeated violations, including:

  1. Repeated late or failed payments, including returned payments.

  2. Stealing, intentional property damage, or unauthorized access to school or student property.

  3. Harassment, bullying, sexually inappropriate conduct, uncontrolled anger, threats, or other serious misconduct.

  4. Disrespect toward a Master, Instructor, Assistant Instructor, staff member, or fellow student.

  5. Challenges or provocations directed at instructors or students, including conduct presented as a joke when it creates disrespect or safety concerns.

  6. Derogatory comments about another person's rank, performance, or ability.

  7. Reckless sparring, intentional injury, unsafe weapons use, or repeated disregard of safety instructions.

  8. Unauthorized teaching, recording, copying, publishing, or distribution of training material.

If enrollment is ended because of a material violation of these policies, unused credits or prepaid balances may be forfeited only to the extent permitted by applicable law and the applicable payment agreement. Nothing in this document eliminates any refund right that cannot legally be waived.

8. Photo / Video / Recording Permission
Choose one. This permission is separate from the liability waiver and student conduct agreement.
I DO CONSENT to the use of photographs, video, or digital recordings of me/my child for Chuan Wu Kung Fu Institute or websites, social media, educational materials, or school displays.
I DO NOT CONSENT to such publication or posting, except where incidental capture is otherwise permitted by law.
9. Student Acknowledgment & Agreement

By signing below, I confirm that I have read this entire document, had an opportunity to ask questions, understand the rules and obligations, and voluntarily agree to follow them. I understand that failure to follow these guidelines may affect my training, access to new material, testing, rank advancement, or enrollment status.

  • I will uphold respect, humility, discipline, safety, and integrity.

  • I will follow classroom, online-training, testing, payment, recording, and conduct rules.

  • I will accept instruction, feedback, and correction with appropriate respect.

  • I understand that martial arts training carries inherent physical risks and I accept those risks as stated above.
